Rian's Trilogy and the Invention of the Wheel - by: Eddlyss64

This may have a better home somewhere else, but we don't yet have a Rian Trilogy subcategory, I'll post it here. I wanted to bring this up because I feel like this group can develop some excellent discussion from this topic, as it's been rolling around my head for a little bit now and a recent interview with Rian Johnson brought it back to the forefront of my mind. So, let's get into it.

So, Rian Johnson's Star Wars trilogy. Other than the fact that it will take place somewhere completely different from anything we've seen thusfar in the films and divergent from the Skywalker timeline entirely, we know next to nothing. Up until now, I've been assuming the best. TLJ was average at best, this can be admitted, but I mostly see that as the fault of the story team for not crafting an overarching story arc about what J.J. Abrams set up, which would've been a far better way to handle the Sequel trilogy in my opinion, but that's just me.

In my mind's eye, Rian can do anything he wants. He can invent a brand new group of Jedi on Tython, far from the danger of the First Order. He can craft a Western-style trilogy that explores Hutt Space, or he can take a trip into the Unknown Regions to explore the Chiss Ascendancy.

But as of now, he's not going to do any of that, because it doesn't seem that he even knows about the EU, stories that would be completely unrelated to what we've seen already in the films. Check out this article from Cinemablend, where Rian is interviewed about a 'major challenge that he has with his new trilogy.'

First off, it needs to be noted that Rian doesn't currently have any kind of plan, not even the beginnings of one, not a simple story arc, nothing. It seems to me that there's something else going on there, because Kathleen just kind of handed him a trilogy before TLJ was even released.

But that's not even the biggest problem here. Rather it wouldn't be as bad if that was the extent of the issue. Rian has a few years, I'm sure he could come up with something that was both inspired by previous EU stories or completely new. The biggest problem is that he seems to think that he's the first one to ever do what he's doing.

To be fair, we haven't gotten a story completely detached from what we know in the movies yet. However, his question of 'what is Star Wars without the iconography' has already been answered, in material such as....drumroll please...The Old Republic. The only real carry over between the movies and KOTOR/II/SWTOR, among other media, were the planets and the Force.

Rian Johnson's problem here is that he seems to think that he's starting completely fresh, which he isn't, or at least, he doesn't have to. He has YEARS worth of old material to look at and absorb, and YEARS of time to come up with a compelling story that really sings to what Star Wars really means. All he has to do is research things that have already been done and use them to inspire new things. It seems like he's trying to completely reinvent the wheel, and it's highly unnecessary.

So, here's what I personally think Rian shouod do. He needs to go quiet about his new trilogy, for one. Quit running his mouth and trying to do again what has already been done. Then, after he's had a couple years to check out some older material and write a good, strong, STAR WARS story, he starts to release trickles of information, maybe concept art here or there, before hitting us with a 30 second teaser six months before the movie's release. Just my thoughts.

SF experience - by: Ser Arcturis

Hello folks!
You guys prolly know that I am pretty fascinating by buying a saber with one of the next sales.
But before, I'd like to know your experiences with SF and their customer service. I have scrolled through Google and found quite a lot of bad reviews about sabers easily breaking, being poorly assembled.
But from the companies I know, SF is the one with the largest arsenal with the most innovative/aesthetically pleasing design.
I hope you all share your experiences!

Alright I gotta put it all over this forum (most in part cuz I don’t use FB)

Jas-Ot..

Oh boy. So I had a couple of SF sabers I’ve aqcuired over the last couple of months that I decided I wanted to have switched around. Nothing big right? Well damn I was wrong. I gotta give this guy credit, on a personal level the guy is great, probably have bugged him numerous times and he’s kept his cool everytime. I’m not much of a picky customer, and he’s very helpful with decision making on most cosmetic elements. Right now I have a good couple of sabers that I’ve got to do on my own but for the Crown Jewels of my collection, This is the go to guy without a doubt.

Thank you again Jay!

I’ll upload pics in a bit!
Thank you all

I have been considering buying a saber recently, and I was wondering what the difference is between an elite tier saber and an apprentice tier saber?

Ultrasabers Dorinian - by: Raakallaht

It seems that Ultrasabers has released a new saber. They are calling it the Dorinian, presumably a nod to the Kel-Dor Jedi who wielded it in the Prequel Trilogy. They seem to have done a nice job with it although as we all know just giving buyers an option of silver, black, blue or red finishes doesn't come close to the endless possibilities of a Saber Forge saber.

Arguably Plo Koon and Kit Fisto are the most popular Clone Wars era Jedi and it is nice to see 1 of the 2 best companies in the business offering at least one of their sabers for purchase. Personally I am more of a fan of Kit Fisto and would love to see SF design his saber. Let's all send out positive waves and hope that they are the ones to develop the saber of Kit Fisto.

A LS6 build. - by: Vechaljian

Everything is here, and ready to rock, be working on the LS6 hero here, all the parts are here, I cleaned up my work table and got everything ready.

I plan on using the heat sink solution TcSS, Specs are as follows, Goth-3d crystal reveal (gullwing), Prizm 5.1, 18650 tcss 10amp high drain. 24mm hi bass speaker, rumble motor, 1.3mm RCP, on/off switch. I decided to go with Lime/green/Deep red Lux( I did have to drill a center hole, glad I have a drill press) If I don't like the Deep Red FOC I'll mix it to yellow. I'm using my normal 30awg wire for the build, on quick connect will be at the led, to make it easy to change if I don't like the color mix.

For the gap in the Wings I'm planning on making a cover to fit inside the reveal, area to hide shine through when not desired, and the activation box I'm still not sure how to make the cover lock a little tighter, but I will. anyway, some starting picts.

I bought a saber from this member and the communication was incredible. Nerf answered all of my question, concerns, and really went out of his way to make this a great experience. I appreciate how he went out of his way to make sure I understood the specific detail about what I was purchasing before even proving an address to make payment to.

I am very pleased with my purchase and would strongly encourage others to buy should anything from him be posted for sale or trade. That is assuming it is an item you have interest in of course.

Thank you Nerf, this set the bar pretty high.

One Replicas SSQy - by: scifidude79

I bought this hilt almost a month and a half ago, it was an impulse buy off of Etsy. I finally got around to buying electronics for it last week, and they arrived the other day, so I did the install. So, without further ado, it's the One Replicas SSQy:

As you can see, the hilt is based on Qyui-Gon Jinn’s saber from Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace. The LED is a Tri CREE XP-E2 in all greens, so it’s super bright:

The blade I have in there is a 32-inch V4 Infinity Edge blade from Saberforge. The blade goes in pretty deeply. It was a brand new blade, so here’s a look at the dimple:

As you can see, it’s pretty deep. The retention screw is on the very end of the emitter. I did a quick measurement and from the tip of the emitter to the LED, which is also held in by a retention screw, the depth is just over 3″. So, a pretty deep blade socket, great for people who like to duel. Speaking of measurements, here are some quick specs on the hilt:

Length: 11.25″ (from tip of emitter to end of pommel)
Width: approx 1.25″ (grip area, emitter and pommel are thicker)

My install doesn’t have sound, though the pommel is vented for it. I was going to put in a Nano Biscotte, and I even ordered a chassis from the company that makes the saber on Shapeways. It was a prototype and it didn’t work out. I couldn’t get an 18650 battery inside it, where you’d assume one goes and, in the process of trying to make it fit and then take it out, I snapped the chassis in two. Granted, I could have gone on and done something with it, but I instead decided to just wire it up with light only. So, I went with an all one color LED for maximum brightness and put in a keystone battery holder for a removable 18650:

It’s a pretty tight fit getting that inside the hilt, but it goes in very snugly. At least it won’t move on me. The bit of gray twisted wire on the end is to pull it out when I need to charge the battery. The switch was another issue. I was dumb enough to order the hilt without a switch, thinking it would be easy to get a red one. Well, it turns out 12mm anti vandal switches that aren’t silver or black are hard to come by. So, I ordered a couple red ones from the company that makes the saber, and went with the super low profile one for my install. I’ll probably use the other one in a Saberforge hilt. Anyway, the switch is momentary, so under the tape on the battery holder is a momentary to latching converter board, so that the saber stays on when I hit the button. It was my first time using that board and it works perfectly, as does the entire saber. So, overall, I’m very happy with this project, even if it is a super tight install.
